The King's Mead series is a collection of different mead creations, the kind that kings from the Viking era might have drunk.

They originated from a fascination with the Viking kings who settled in Jelling and belonged to the Gorm family.

Our brewmaster is not only a mead expert, but, as a former museum employee, is also very familiar with the Vikings from Jelling. This expertise inspired him to create a homage to the three great Viking kings.

The King's Mead, in this form, could also have been drunk by the Viking kings.

Gorm the Old

For those who like sweet things, our Gorms Mead is just right. It impresses with its fruity sweetness and apple aromas. This mead is brewed with a larger amount of honey than usual and plenty of fresh apple juice. The apples give the mead a tart note and provide a beautiful counterbalance to the robust late summer honey. The quinces give it a slightly spicy aftertaste that lingers on the palate. To round out this mead, we use angelica and oak shavings.

Harald Bluetooth

We brew this mead with the finest Danish summer honey, apples, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger, and oak. Its spicy aroma will captivate anyone, not just Vikings, who automatically think of Christmas. To create this taste experience, we use a slightly spicy spice blend. This is an atypical mead for us, as we don't normally use herbs that don't grow in our area.

Sven Forkbeard

A classic mead brewed to perfection, using the finest Scandinavian mead spices. Lingonberries give the mead its fruity, fresh flavor while also adding a tart note. Meadowsweet provides the base for this mead, resulting in a long-lasting, spicy aftertaste.

For those wondering what meadowsweet is, meadowsweet is a Nordic herb known to the Vikings, which we at Mjødgård enjoy using.

To give the Royal Mead its characteristic acidity and pungency, we use sloes, which have grown in our region since Viking times.

The combination of sour sloe berries and the sweet, spicy meadowsweet creates a truly distinctive and royal mead.
